Living Vancouver is a photography project documenting the story of Vancouver in the 2020s.
Transcending cultures, politics, ages, and wealth, Living Vancouver aims to depict a vivid portrait of an evolving city.
From the city’s well-known events like the Polar Bear Swim, iconic restaurants, and hidden industries, to passionate activists of all stripes and the underground music scene, a bit of everything is captured here.
This photography is a mix of commissioned work from various tourism boards, publications, companies, and personal work. As the decade comes to an end, the hope is to create an image collection serving as a time capsule of Vancouver’s past.

I’m Ian Harland, the person behind the Living Vancouver project. As a professional commercial photographer and photojournalist, I’ve had the pleasure of working with companies and organizations like Nikon, Destination Vancouver, and the Globe and Mail.
Growing up on the North Shore mountains and now living in Kitsilano, I’ve always been inspired by the nature, art, and culture of this city. Through this project, I hope to document it.
Got a story in Vancouver? I’d love to hear from you.
I’m available for personal projects (free) and commissioned work, depending on the inquiry.
